in the Salles des Fêtes of the European School.
The Irish teachers of the European School have organised a public lecture by Professor Dr Diarmaid Ferriter, Chair of Modern History at University College, Dublin.
Professor Ferriter was born in Dublin in 1972. He attended University College, Dublin from which he obtained his B.A. (1991) and PhD (1996). He lectured in Modern Irish History at U.C.D. from 1996-1998 and subsequently served as both researcher and writer with the Dictionary of Irish Biography from 1998-1999. He was senior lecturer in Irish History at St Patrick's College D.C.U. from 1999-2008. Professor Ferriter was appointed Chair of Modern Irish History at University College, Dublin, in 2008. His main interests include social, political and cultural history of twentieth century Ireland. Professor Ferriter lives in Dublin.
In his lecture "From Celtic Dawn to Celtic Tiger", Professor Ferriter will offer a general overview of the key political, social and economic developments in Ireland between 1900 and 2000. Professor Ferriter is a remarkably talented speaker and a formost authority on modern Irish history. He has published widely and to international critical acclaim on this subject and has lectured on Irish history in many countries. It is undoubtedly a great coup for the European School and for the Irish community of Luxembourg that he has agreed to deliver the 2011 Saint Willibrord Lecture at the European School.
